
Safety at Work 101
June is National Safety Month
In an effort to help keep you safe and maintain an as safe as possible workspace, we have compiled a list of tips to help you and your coworkers while on the job.
General Safety Tips:
- Keep your desk and work space clutter free
- Keep desk and file drawers closed when not in use
- Sit upright in your chair with your feet touching the floor
- Before sitting down, look to make sure your chair is beneath you and hasn’t rolled away
- Push your chair under your desk when not in use
- Get help moving heavy objects
- Approach blind areas cautiously
- Assure all electrical cords are kept out of walkways
- Be cautious of wet pavement while walking to the office or out to your car / bus.
- Wipe up spills or pick up objects that shouldn’t be on the floor
- Report all job-related injuries, accidents and illnesses
- Never do anything that is unsafe or questionable in order to get a job done
- Use handrails on steps and other elevated areas
- Horseplay, running and fighting are prohibited and not tolerated
- Working under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs or using them at work are prohibited and not tolerated
- Firearms or explosives are prohibited and not tolerated
Watch Out For:
- Torn carpet, loose floorboards or tiles
- Broken furniture
- Burnt out light bulbs or other appliances
- Frayed, torn, damaged electrical cords and cables
- Obstructions in the walkways and exits
- Fire hazards
